Eye Care for Life

Every child should have a complete eye examination before starting school. Poor visual performance can lead to poor academic performance. School screenings, while important, are no substitute for a comprehensive exam. From early childhood through the teens, vision can change dramatically. Our increased demands for close work, particularly computer use, can stress the visual system causing blurred vision, fatigue, and headaches. Vision loss due to ocular disease, retinal detachment, inflammation, infection, glaucoma, systemic disease (diabetes, hypertension, thyroid dysfunction, lupus, arthritis) or prescription drug toxicity is often preventable if detected early. Annual eye exams help ensure clear, comfortable vision for a life time.

Our comprehensive eye examination includes the precise determination of your prescription, as well as, a complete ocular health evaluation. You will be examined for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal disease. Your eyes ability to work together (binocularity), color perception, and ability to shift focus from distance to near (accommodation) will also be tested. These tests are especially important for children.

Contact lenses are a wonderful option for many patients. While they may have limitations contact lenses for astigmatism and bifocal contact lenses are available. If you have been told that you cannot wear contact lenses, schedule an appointment. Dr. Barr and Dr. Simoncini are more than willing to work with "hard to fit" patients.
